Why Prioritising Quality Over Quantity Matters

In the fast paced world in which we live, the ability to get lots of things done, now, is highly valued. At least we believe that's true. But while the quantity of work we do is important, it's only valid if we get the quality right first.
If we make a million widgets to sell into a market, but we get the quality desired by the market wrong, we might not be able to sell them (at least for our planned price). Even if we are making a cheap option for a particular market, we must understand what the quality aspect is; i.e., we must understand the job the widget will do for the buyer and ensure it meets that need.
Therefore it is suffice to say that we need to understand the quality aspect of a decision before the quantity aspect.
It's the same concept in business as usual. To what degree of quality do I need to do something? If I'm writing a report what will the user of the report use it to do? Report on sales? Then give them the sales numbers. Reasons for sales numbers? Then give them some analysis. But don't give them content they won't use or your wasting your time, and if you don't give them what they need then you're still wasting your time!
Understanding the WHY you are doing things is a quality consideration.
