Terms & Conditions
Culture Science Cards — Terms and Conditions of Use
Effective from 2026
1. The cards and what they're for
Culture Science Cards are a facilitation tool designed to help teams examine thinking, surface behaviour, and reach genuine agreement about the culture they want to build. They are the intellectual property of Culture Science Cards (powered by Gapingvoid Design Group) and are protected accordingly.
Purchasing a deck gives you the right to use the cards. It does not give you the right to reproduce, copy, photograph for commercial purposes, or replicate the card content in any form without written permission.
2. Two kinds of use
Private use covers any situation where you are using the cards without charging for that use. This includes:
-
Running sessions with your own team or organisation as part of your employed role
-
Voluntary or community work where no fee is charged
-
Personal exploration and familiarisation with the cards
Private use requires no certification and no licence beyond the purchase of a deck.
Commercial use is any situation where you are charging a client — an individual, team, or organisation — for a service that includes the use of Culture Science Cards. This includes consulting, facilitation, coaching, training, and any other paid professional engagement.
Commercial use requires certification as a Culture Science Cards Certified Facilitator.
3. Certification requirement for commercial use
If you intend to use Culture Science Cards with paying external clients, you are required to complete the Culture Science Cards Certified Facilitator Programme before doing so.
Certification ensures that the cards are used in a way that is consistent with the methodology they were designed around — and that clients receive the quality of experience the tool is capable of producing.
Using the cards commercially without certification undermines the integrity of the methodology, the experience of the client, and the community of practitioners who have committed to the standard. We ask that you respect this — not because we will pursue you legally, but because it matters.
4. Geographic licensing for commercial use
New Zealand — certification is open to all applicants. There are no territorial restrictions on commercial use within New Zealand.
Australia — for a period of at least two years from the date of this agreement, commercial use in Australia is restricted to facilitators certified within a designated cohort. New certifications for Australian commercial use are not currently available. This arrangement is in place to protect the integrity of the methodology's introduction to the Australian market.
All other territories — commercial licensing arrangements for countries outside New Zealand and Australia are yet to be determined. If you are based outside these territories and wish to use the cards commercially, please contact us directly to discuss before proceeding.
5. Resale
Certified facilitators may purchase decks at wholesale pricing for resale to clients as part of a facilitated engagement. Cards sold to clients become the client's property and resource.
Decks purchased for resale may not be sold through third-party retail channels without written agreement from Culture Science Cards.
Each deck is intended for use by one team or organisation. Cards used in a facilitated session are not to be recirculated as second-hand decks.
6. Intellectual property
The content of Culture Science Cards — including the card designs, illustrations, language, and the above the line / below the line framework as expressed through the cards — is the intellectual property of Culture Science Cards and Gapingvoid Design Group.
You may not reproduce, adapt, or commercialise the card content in any form without written permission.
The broader facilitation approach — the use of physical cards, behavioural sorting, and group dialogue as a methodology — is not claimed as proprietary. We believe in open thinking.
7. The spirit of these terms
We wrote these terms to protect something we care about — the quality of the experience teams have when they use these cards, and the integrity of the community of facilitators who deliver that experience.
We are not in the business of pursuing legal action against people who make honest mistakes. We are in the business of building a community of practitioners who hold themselves to a standard because they believe in it.
If you're unsure whether your intended use requires certification or falls within these terms, please just ask. We'd rather have the conversation than have you proceed on an assumption.

8. Updates to these terms
These terms may be updated as the Culture Science Cards community grows and geographic licensing arrangements are confirmed. Current terms are always available at culturesciencecards.com.
